 Safety
Our commitment to safety and care of young people is paramount.
The centre is licensed under the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA no. L8078/R0764) and approved by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and British Canoe Union (BCU).
Instruction takes place on the sheltered waters of Willen Lake, with safety boats in attendance. Equipment is tailored to suit the size, strength and ability of students.
Equipment
All equipment is regularly and extensively checked to maintain safety standards. Yearly assessments are carried out by the AALA, RYA and BCU governing bodies. Risk assessment review procedures are in place to ensure the highest levels of safety.
Tuition/Staff
All our courses are operated by fully qualified CRB checked staff. The instructional team includes a number of highly qualified and experienced staff, whose qualifications include: RYA Dinghy Sailing Senior Instructor, RYA Powerboat Instructor and BCU Level 3 Coach. Our instructor ratios comply with National Governing Bodies and range from 6 to 10 trainees per instructor depending on the activity.
Water Confidence (swimming ability)
Participants do not have to be able to swim, but should be confident enough not to panic if they find themselves in the water. The exception is for Knee Boarding which requires a 50m swimming ability.
Buoyancy Aids, Wetsuits and Helmets
Buoyancy aids are compulsory and are provided for all participants. They are fitted by our instructors to ensure correct size and adjustment. Non swimmers (less than 25m ability) are issued with life jackets. Wetsuits will be provided by the centre for activities that involve regular immersion, such as windsurfing. Otherwise suitable dress will be at the discretion of the Senior Instructor on the day. Helmets are issued where appropriate in line with our risk assessments.
